Bsmart Be Fuel Efficient

B Safe

Bsmarts tips to fuel efficiency and saving you loads of money – We all like to save money and with rising costs of insurance, car maintenance, fuel prices there are a few easy steps you can take and save money.

  • Make sure tyres are inflated

Check this regularly, at least every 2 weeks (every week if you can!) – An under-inflated tyre can use more than 3% more fuel on an average journey plus it will increase the wear on your tyre.

  • Drive Smoothly

Driving aggressively with bursts of accelerations will cost you greatly, wasting fuel. When pulling away from the lights try to do it gently and you will see a massive difference.

  • Look at the Road Ahead

By anticipating what’s coming ahead you can plan a more efficient start and stop, if you can see a car is trying to park, make sure you don’t speed up to it just to stop, or there is no point racing to another set of traffic lights to stop again.

  • Sticking to the limit

You will use around 10% – 20% more fuel driving at 80mph compared to driving at 70mph. Plus if you do the math you actually only save 2 minutes on a 20 mile journey driving at 80mph, not worth it.

  • De-clutter

Is your boot full of un-necessary items that you hardly use? Storing your baby’s pushchair in the boot even when they’re not in the vehicle with you? All this contributes to the weight of the car using extra fuel. You could save around 10% fuel compared to a car with an empty boot.
Only fill up quarter or half way at a time

  • Full tank - this will only contribute to the weight of the vehicle, the more weight the harder the engine has to work to carry it all, this contributes to extra fuel being used.

  • Avoid Short Trips

I’ve done it and I am sure there are others who have too, it’s so easy to pop down to the local shop for your Sunday papers or a pint of milk when you could easily walk. Cold engines generally use twice as much fuel then a warm engine, so walk instead!
